A classification inspection is a review by NCCI of a policyholder's current business operations to determine the proper classification code(s). Once a classification inspection request is submitted to NCCI, the request is sent to an inspection coordinator for processing and assignment to an NCCI inspector.
The NCCI inspector reviews the request and notifies the policyholder by letter, email, or call to set an appointment date for the inspection. The inspection is completed physically on-site or virtually if the policy meets certain criteria for a virtual inspection. At the appointment, the inspector reviews the business operations with the policyholder contact and gathers information about the type of work being conducted, processes, materials, equipment, products, subcontracted and other special operations, and the number of employees performing the work. The inspector then writes a report describing the operations and explains any changes in classification, citing the applicable NCCI Basic Manual for Workers Compensation and Employers Liability Insurance rules. NCCI quality reviews the inspection report and issues the final written inspection report to the authorized customer.
Note: You can utilize additional functionality, such as the ability to check on the status of your submitted classification inspection request.
