NCCI believes in hiring well, not fast. Successful candidates have done research on the company and have a basic understanding of what we do as an organization and of the job. To stand out, demonstrate how your skills and experiences align with the role and the company culture.
During the interviewing process, two techniques are typically used to evaluate candidates, as discussed below.
Behavioral Event Interviewing:
Behavioral Event Interviewing (BEI) is an evidence-based approach to interviewing that our managers use to gather specific examples of how you approach your work and overcome challenges through probing questions and a discovery process. Using BEI, we can effectively obtain a complete picture of you, including behavioral strengths and opportunities, motivations, values, and problem-solving capacity.
The STAR Method:
The
STAR Approach is a structured method that you will use to describe a specific event or scenario that demonstrates your knowledge, experience, and capabilities in the following format:
Situation:
You will give background or context to an event—where it occurred as well as your role and the roles of others involved.
Task:
You will give details about the problem that you solved, the tasks completed, and the challenges involved.
Action:
You will give insight into the approach taken to address the situation and task, and the rationale for choices made.
Result:
You will explain any outcomes obtained in terms of the task and what you learned from it.
Be sure to give specifics about an actual event and not a hypothetical situation. Using this method will help the interviewers understand your experiences and skills.
