Effective October 30, 2024, NCCI’s
Experience Rating Worksheet summary page will include a new column for the state’s approved primary/excess loss split point, applicable to the rating effective date. This new column will provide upfront information concerning an important value used in the determination of the actual loss amounts for the calculation of the
Experience Rating Mod.
The state's primary/excess loss split point will appear in a new column on the right side of the summary page.
The primary/excess loss split point divides the loss amount for each claim into two layers:
- primary losses (portion of the claim lower than the split point), and
- excess losses (portion of the claim above the split point).
For example, if the split point is $20,000, a claim totaling $50,000 would contribute $20,000 to the primary layer and $30,000 to the excess layer. Primary losses receive a greater weight than excess losses in the experience rating modification formula. Because of this, primary losses have a greater impact on the experience rating modification.
This new column will appear on worksheets as of October 30, 2024.
