Our focus on Inclusion and Diversity (I&D) permeates throughout our company. Several new initiatives help propel our journey.
Flex@NCCI
Flex@NCCI is the way we work collaboratively across the company regardless of location. Rather than coming back to the office after the COVID pandemic, we took advantage of our learnings during our work-from-home experience. We pivoted to more remote work and continued our reliance on technology to bring us together virtually. This new way of working means flexible work options for employees to design a work schedule and setting that differs from “traditional” hours of work and location. NCCI employees have the freedom to fully customize their work experience.
TAO Employee Resource Group
Formed to foster an environment of acceptance and inclusion across NCCI, Together as One (TAO) is NCCI’s first Employee Resource Group. TAO has already involved over 100 employees in its mission and continues to recognize and celebrate employee diversity in a variety of ways. The group offers another resource to help amplify the varied experiences and backgrounds of NCCI’s employees. TAO focuses on supporting NCCI’s I&D initiative, provides networking opportunities for members, highlights important cultural events and milestones, and offers professional development and learning opportunities.
Culture@ Playbooks
Culture@ Playbooks provide employees and managers with curated online courses, tips, team activities, leadership guidance, and much more to effectively contribute to a respectful and inclusive work environment at NCCI. Like plays in a sport, these playbooks serve as tools for achieving individual, team, and company success. Each guide helps to build mindset, skillsets, and practices for supporting and advancing our culture. To date, three playbooks have been released surrounding hybrid team effectiveness, collaboration, and connection, as well as tools specifically for managers to monitor their teams’ level of engagement.
Behavioral Event Interviewing
In an effort to enhance our recruiting efforts, NCCI has implemented Behavioral Event Interviewing (BEI). This is an evidence-based approach to interviewing that gathers specific examples of how a candidate approaches their work and overcomes challenges through probing questions and a discovery process. Using BEI, we can effectively obtain a complete picture of a candidate, including behavioral strengths and opportunities, motivations, values, and problem-solving capacity. BEI also helps take assumptions, preferences, and perceptions out of the hiring picture to ensure that biases are not influencing hiring decisions. Through a series of BEI modules, and the addition of coaching sessions, hiring managers now have greater support when making hiring decisions.
I&D Microlearning
As part of an Unconscious Bias Education campaign, we enlisted the help of learning partner Blue Ocean Brain to deliver targeted content to employees in support of I&D education. Blue Ocean Brain’s microlearnings are bite-sized articles and brain challenges consumable in 10 minutes to help employees learn and apply I&D concepts in relevant and practical ways. The content is available on our Dayforce Learning platform, and topics range from inclusive leadership to understanding microaggressions, from inclusive design to elevating authenticity, and thousands of other courses.
