All information provided in this guide is subject to change and dependent on notification from the state. Please refer to the applicable Workers Compensation Statutes or Rules for additional information.

How NCCI Provides POC Data to State |

Proof of Coverage Inquiry
Note: Carriers must be licensed with the South Carolina Department of Insurance prior to reporting workers compensation coverage in South Carolina for the first time. Additionally, carriers must provide the information requested in the attached
South Carolina Bulletin (PDF). Failure to follow the requirements will result in rejected POC.

POC Timeliness Reporting Requirements |
Transaction Received Date |
NCCI’s received date is used to determine timeliness on POC transactions accepted by the state.
|
Policies |
Must be filed within 30 days after the Policy Effective Date.
POC Notices may be submitted if the policy will not be issued within 30 days after the Policy Effective Date. This does not eliminate the need to submit the policy.

Cancellations |
Cancellations are not effective until 30 days after the Cancellation Notice is received by NCCI or 10 days after notification for non-payment.

Reinstatements |
Due within 30 days after the Reinstatement Effective Date.

Nonrenewals |
South Carolina is a continuous coverage state. Nonrenewals are required and must be reported 30 days prior to the Nonrenewal effective date.

Data Elements:

Address Reporting—No Physical Location:
- When there is no physical location in the state, South Carolina will accept Employer Names linked to:
- Address Type 6—No Physical Location
- Address Type 2—Location of Operations with an Out-of-State Address reported with State Code Link 39
- The out-of-state address is preferred

POC Penalties & Appeals |
POC Fines |
South Carolina fines $200 for late reporting of data. A fine of $100 per day and not more than $250 per day may be assessed for each day that data is late.

Appeals |
Appeals must be filed with the state within 30 days from the date of the fine notice.
