Note: Values are as reported and have not been developed, on-leveled, trended, or adjusted for inflation. While patterns across various maturities were reviewed, takeaways were generally similar and thus the visuals and insights in this dashboard focus on a 1st report.

***This information is based on countrywide Unit Statistical Data submitted through October 6, 2023 and includes jurisdictions where NCCI provides ratemaking services: AK, AL, AR, AZ, CO, CT, DC, FL, GA, HI, IA, ID, IL, IN, KS, KY, LA, MD, ME, MO, MS, MT, NC, NE, NH, NM, NV, OK, OR, RI, SC, SD, TN, TX, UT, VA, VT, and WV. Data from private carriers and state funds as well as claims resulting from large deductible policies are included. Claims directly resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic have been excluded.
Case Reserve: The estimates of anticipated future payments associated with individual known claims as established by an insurer.
1st Report: The first submission of loss information, valued 18 months after the policy effective month/year as reported in accordance with NCCI’s Statistical Plan guidelines.
Lost-Time Claim: A compensable workplace injury that results in the claimant missing sufficient work time to receive an indemnity (i.e. wage replacement) benefit payment.
Lost-Time Claim Severity: Measured in this tool as reported paid losses plus case reserves divided by claim counts for lost-time claims as of a 1st report.
Policy Year: A premium and loss accounting definition in which experience is summarized for all policies with effective dates in a given calendar year period.
