How It Works
- Enter a class code in the “Search By” field
- Click a
Scopes Description from the results to open a new modal window
- Scroll down to the
Scopes State Applicability section to view the list of applicable states
Example 1
Scenario: You need to classify an automobile parts store that does repair work. The business operates in
Colorado,
Kansas, and
Nebraska.
Search Steps:
- Under
Select State(s), select
Colorado.
- Under
Search By, select Phraseology and Scopes and enter:
%auto%parts%sales%repair.
- Review the search results.
- Select the Scopes Description for Code 8380.
- Review the description to determine that this is the code you will use to classify this business.
- Scroll to the
Scopes State Applicability section to determine if this Scopes Description also applies to the remaining states, Kansas and Nebraska.
Result: The
Scopes State Applicability list confirms that Colorado, Kansas, and Nebraska all use the same Scopes Description—no need to open the Kansas or Nebraska results as they all match.
Example 2
Scenario: The business provides pressure cleaning services for building exteriors. Workers frequently use ladders to reach elevated areas. The business operates in
Montana and
Oregon.
- Search for Code 5551 for Montana and Oregon.
- Click
Open links in new tab/window to view multiple states simultaneously.
- Select the
Scopes Description for Montana and review the Scopes State Applicability for the state. You see that Oregon is not included in the list.
- Select the
Scopes Description for
Oregon.
- Position the screens side by side to compare the Scopes Descriptions.
- Scroll to the
Scopes State Applicability section.
Results: The
