Applicable to installation, service, and repair, including residential and commercial, shop and yard work. Division of payroll between Code 5537 and any other contracting classification is not permitted when all or a majority portion of the work for an HVAC contract is performed by a single contractor. Specialist subcontractors performing a portion of the HVAC contract (i.e., electrical, plumbing, sheet metal) must be separately rated to the classification applicable to their work. Separately rate portable air-conditioning units to Code 9519. |
Description:
This classification applies to the installation, service, and repair of forced air heating, ventilation, air-conditioning, refrigeration systems, and any combination of one or all of these forced air systems. In terms of an HVAC system, “refrigeration” means the refrigerant in an air-conditioning system. The installation, service, and repair of commercial refrigeration units such as grocery store coolers and walk-in coolers, which are not connected to an HVAC system, are classified in accordance with the Refrigeration entry in NCCI’s Basic Manual.
Code 5537 is an all-inclusive classification for nonportable forced air heating, ventilation, air-conditioning and evaporative coolingsystems. It includes any electrical wiring, cleaning, oiling and adjusting, and plumbing or sheet metal work connected with the operations at the same job site when performed by the same 5537 contractor.
The installation of the various types of HVAC forced air systems involves installing the indoor and outdoor equipment, refrigerant lines, supply air outlets and returns, duct runs, control system, furnace gas piping and vent (if applicable), and charging the refrigerant system is all contemplated by Code 5537.
