PHRASEOLOGY MASONRY NOC
NAICS Code(s):
(For reference only. Not to be used for classification of risks for workers compensation purposes.)
238140—Masonry Contractors
Description:
Code 5022 is applied to insureds engaged in masonry work provided such work is not otherwise classified in the manual. It includes masonry work in connection with the construction of residential, commercial or industrial structures utilizing brick, brick veneer or cement, concrete, stone, marble or glass blocks. The classification does not include the building of forms or the pouring of concrete.
Code 5022 also is applied to specialist contractors engaged in fireplace construction, chimney construction for one- or two-story residences, installation of interior partitions of hollow fireproof tiles, installation of gypsum blocks or bricks, exterior building caulking, boiler brick work, masonry repair and relining of blast furnaces, masonry or tile silo erection, sawing of concrete block walls and waterproofing of building exteriors by use of trowels.
Tuck pointing, which is the act of filling and/or finishing brickwork joints with cement or mortar, is included in this code. Tuck pointing is not assigned to Code 5022 when it is performed in conjunction with construction work classified to a code other than Code 5022. For example, tuck pointing is assigned to Code 5222 when it is performed in conjunction with chimney construction or repair work classified to Code 5222.
Code 5022 is also assigned to masonry operations in connection with building raising or moving operations. When no separation of payroll exists, the payroll for the entire building raising or moving operation must be assigned to Code 5703 or the highest rated classification applicable, whichever is greater.

Construction classifications are indicated by the addition of a construction code symbol ( • ) next to the classification code number.
