SCOPE Code 3365 applies to all types of contract welding or cutting operations that are not otherwise classified. This classification contemplates welding or cutting operations performed by specialist contractors doing both shop work or outside work. Since certain projects where welding or cutting may be performed are extra hazardous, the classification phraseology sets forth the operations that must be separately rated. Specialists engaged in automated or computerized welding or cutting operations are additionally contemplated by Code 3365. These specialists may employ automatic robotic arms, microscopics and/or lasers in their operations. This code also contemplates brazing operations. Brazing involves the joining together of metal pieces using solder with a high melting point.
Code 3365 is applicable to specialist contractors engaged exclusively in all testing or inspection of oil or gas pipes provided that the testing or inspection is performed in conjunction with the construction of the oil or gas pipeline. Refer to Codes 6213 and 8720 for testing or inspection of oil or gas pipelines that are not under construction.
Code 3365 is also applicable to the testing or inspection of conduits or pipelines other than oil or gas pipelines when the testing or inspection is as follows:
|
Testing or inspection operations performed by employees of insureds also engaged in construction operations shall be assigned to the appropriate construction classification.
For workers compensation purposes, “destructive” pipe testing shall include testing methods performed with the intent to destroy the pipe. “Non-destructive” pipe testing or inspection shall mean testing or inspection methods employed with no intention of destroying the pipe.
Code 3365 is restricted to insured specialist contractors or separate subsidiaries engaged solely in welding or cutting operations who do not engage in the operations specified in this classification's footnote.
Code 3365 is a construction classification and as such, Code 8227—Construction or Erection Permanent Yard is available for assignment to qualifying risks along with Code 3365. It should be noted that Code 3365 also includes shop operations. We distinguish between Code 8227 operations and Code 3365 shop operations in the following manner: Code 8227 operations consist of labor that maintains, repairs and stores an insured's materials and equipment. Shop operations assigned to Code 3365 consist of labor (usually skilled) that engages in operations that are specifically related to the work contemplated by the construction or erection code applicable to the business. Refer to Code 8227 for additional information.
Please refer to Code 5403 for extra-territorial premium determination guidelines that may be applicable to insureds that have operations outside their headquarters' state.
State Addendum
Massachusetts Code 6252 is applied to all qualifying operations, regardless
of whether or not the work completed is pneumatic or non-pneumatic.
Refer to Code 6251 for all tunneling operations. (Code 6260 is N/A MA.)
Code 3365 is applicable to specialist contractors engaged exclusively
in the testing or inspection of pipes or conduits, such as oil or
gas pipelines; conduits for irrigation or drainage systems; sewer,
