Welcome to NCCI’s 2003 Issues Report

Message from Stephen J. Klingel
President and CEO
NCCI Holdings, Inc.

2003 Issues ReportAs part of NCCI’s mission to support and educate market participants and anyone interested in our corner of the insurance industry, the 2003 Workers Compensation Issues Report offers a detailed outlook, analysis, and perspective on the critical issues facing the workers compensation industry today.

The goal of NCCI’s Issues Report is to communicate—in broad terms and plain language—information that is often targeted only to industry insiders. It is our goal to examine key topics in the workers compensation world from several viewpoints—that of our own NCCI experts and of a handful of others from both inside and outside the insurance field.

We’ve assembled an impressive array of authors to complement our own executives’ insights and to make sure we present a balanced view of today’s workers compensation marketplace. In addition to our traditional—and highly anticipated—State of the Line report on the latest economic forces facing the market, you’ll read about:

  • Whether terrorism is, in fact, an insurable risk, by AIG Senior Vice President and Chief Underwriter Richard Thomas
  • Changes in workers compensation reinsurance, by Guy Carpenter Senior Vice President Aaron Bueler
  • Modeling for terrorist attacks, by EQECAT President Rick Clinton
  • Overview of the property/casualty industry, by Insurance Information Institute Vice President Bob Hartwig
  • State legislative update, by Alliance of American Insurers Vice President Greg Heidrich

I trust that you will find this Issues Report useful as you meet the critical issues facing our industry in 2003. Please visit ncci.com for updated research and intelligence on changing market dynamics.
